Controversial McDonald's Advertisement

McDonald's is the target of a new ad that blames the fast food restaurant for heart disease. The ad, which right now is making the rounds on the internet and youtube, shows a middle-aged man lying dead in a morgue holding a half-eaten hamburger as a woman cries over the body.

"PCRM's provocative new fast-food commercial draws attention to the link between heart disease deaths and fast food," the organization wrote in a description of the video posted on YouTube. "Studies show that people who consume fast food are at a higher risk for obesity, a factor contributing to heart disease".This commercial is outrageous, misleading and unfair to all consumers, McDonalds said in a statement posted on its website. "McDonald's trusts our customers to put such outlandish propaganda in perspective, and to make food and lifestyle choices that are right for them".The commercial is already drawing criticism. Steve Siebold, the author of Die Fat or Get Tough; 101 Differences in Thinking Between Fat People and Fit People, said McDonalds isn't to blame for heart disease or the obesity epidemic. "This new commercial misses the mark because it gives overweight people another outlet to blame for a problem they created," he said in a news release Thursday. "The bottom line: if you're fat it's your fault."
